For Fanime 2009 I organized a very large Rayearth group to enter the masquerade with.
It was decided early on that we’d do a recap of the series, due to how complex, and
cumbersome costumes we were wearing it didn’t provide much mobility.
Nonetheless I really enjoyed the performance, and can’t thank those who were in the group
and those who helped ninja our curtains, Teca and Suspi!

Personal thoughts- Umi was my fave of the knights. When I was young I would draw her all the time(along with alcyone!) It was inevitable for me to make an umi costume, and chose the final armor form.
Construction details- The costume is fully lined, with hand-painted bias tape attached to all the edges. The front panel has hand-painted gold fabric triangles pieces that were zig-zagged stitched down. The headband was made with the same blue as the rest of the outfit on bias to stretch over a headband, then applied the bias tape to the headband. the blue gem was a last-minute piece and was made from paperclay and then spray-painted. the spikes on the sides of the headband are made from carved plastic. I made vinyl gloves to match my ‘scaled’ vinyl belt and thigh high boots.
